Move from Magento to Shopify with a plan for your catalog, customer records, integrations and existing search traffic. Vivek leads the migration from discovery through a reviewed launch.
Magento behavior often hides in extensions, data conventions and team workarounds.
Magento migration requires translating a flexible source platform into a maintainable Shopify model. Custom attributes, extension behavior and store views often contain business rules that a basic product export cannot explain. We expose those dependencies before committing to the destination storefront or launch date. A representative sample should include configurable products, important custom attributes and orders that exercise extension-specific behavior. We compare how staff maintain those records today with the proposed Shopify workflow. This review helps distinguish reusable content, required replacements and obsolete complexity before a full import or storefront build.
Who this service is for
Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce merchants planning a Shopify rebuild with documented catalog and extension dependencies.
Start with the constraint that matters
Share the Magento version, store views, product types, custom extensions and the records required after launch.
Know what moves, what changes and how launch is checked.
Review the decisions, dependencies and deliverables that shape your project.
Move from Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce to Shopify or Shopify Plus with a plan for the catalog, customer experience and systems your business depends on. Vivek Codes scopes the data transfer and storefront rebuild together, so you can review what will work differently before committing to launch.
Map Magento data to the Shopify catalog
Start with products, SKUs, images, stock locations, customer records, content and the order history your team needs. Configurable products, bundles, custom attributes, customer groups and store views need individual mapping decisions. Categories need a Shopify collection and navigation structure. Historical orders require a suitable import method, separate from the customer CSV.
A sample import checks relationships, missing fields and exceptions before the full transfer. Use the Shopify migration checklist to prepare the inventory and separate active business data from records that can remain archived.
Rebuild the experience and customer access
Magento themes and PHP extensions do not install on Shopify. We translate the approved design into a Shopify theme and review each extension against native features, apps or custom development. ERP connections, wholesale pricing, search, shipping and checkout behavior need separate acceptance tests. Our custom Shopify app decision guide helps distinguish a necessary integration from avoidable maintenance.
Customer CSV imports exclude existing passwords. We agree on account communication and sign-in, including passwordless customer accounts where appropriate. Subscriptions and saved payment methods require a separate compatibility review with the gateway and subscription provider. Shopify's payment migration requirements determine the supported route; some customers may need to update billing details.
Protect useful URLs and rehearse the cutover
We inventory indexed pages and valuable landing URLs, map changed paths to their closest equivalent, and test eligible 301 redirects. Magento URL rewrites, filters and market paths need checking against Shopify's redirect restrictions. Titles, descriptions, internal links, canonical URLs and the sitemap enter the launch review. Search visibility can fluctuate after a platform change.
Agree on the final import of orders, customers and stock changed since rehearsal, an editing freeze and the checkout switch. Test payment, fulfillment and notifications before approval. The rollback plan names the decision owner, retained Magento backup and reconciliation of any new Shopify transactions. Pointing the domain back alone does not reverse orders or payments.
Know the scope, cost drivers and handover
Your agreed deliverables include the field mapping, exception report, implemented storefront, redirect file, test results and launch runbook, with admin handover and a defined support window. Cost and timing depend on data quality, catalog complexity, custom modules, integrations, design changes and historical records. Share your Magento version, store URL and required launch date to request a scoped estimate.
Inventory configurable products, attributes, store views and extension behavior that affect the destination model.
Shopify data mapping
Specify catalog relationships, customer records, historical data and the transformations needed for import.
Extension and storefront replacement
Rebuild approved journeys and identify native, app or custom replacements for required Magento behavior.
Migration reconciliation pack
Provide sample-import results, URL mappings, exception records and the agreed launch runbook.
Decisions before development
Translate the Magento catalog model before importing it.
A practical planning example
A configurable Magento product may combine child SKUs, attributes and custom extension behavior. Moving only the visible product name and image can lose the rules that determine what a customer can purchase.
Choose a configurable product with several child SKUs and one extension-driven option. Map stock-bearing choices separately from additional instructions and document any source behavior that requires a new solution. Compare a representative purchase before and after migration, including price, availability and order details. Add important category and product URLs to the redirect review rather than checking only the new homepage.
Illustrative scenario for scoping the work, not a reported client result.

What to decide
Map each source attribute to a Shopify field, option or a supported custom-data approach. Review complex pricing, customer groups and extension behavior separately instead of assuming direct equivalents.
What to verify
Reconcile parent and child products, selectable combinations, prices and stock. Test legacy category and product URLs and document any historical records or account features that need a separate migration path.
What to receive at handover
Document how Magento product types, attributes and URL structures map to Shopify. Retain a list of unsupported or separately rebuilt behavior, plus reconciliation checks that help catalog and operations teams review the migrated store before launch.

Get clarity on scope, cost, ownership and the way we work. Your store, its existing systems and the outcome you need shape the recommendation.
Start with your priorities
Share your Shopify store URL, the main problem to solve, your budget range and any launch date. Include the customer journeys that need attention, the apps you rely on and the tasks your team wants to manage more easily. These details help define a useful development brief.
Know what is included
Your proposal sets out the deliverables, responsibilities, review milestones and commercial terms before development starts. Confirm which theme templates, integrations and content updates are included, along with testing and handover. Shopify subscriptions, paid apps and ongoing support should be identified separately so you can compare the full project cost.
Plan beyond the launch
Agree who owns everyday editing, technical maintenance and future releases. Handover notes explain the delivered controls, outstanding dependencies and the support included in your scope.
The scope can include products, SKUs, images, stock, customers, content and selected historical orders. We map configurable products, bundles, custom attributes and store views before importing. A sample transfer identifies unsupported fields and records needing cleanup, so the final scope states what transfers, changes or stays in an archive.
Can my Magento theme and extensions move to Shopify?+
They require a rebuild or replacement. Magento themes and PHP extensions do not run as Shopify themes or apps. We review each essential behavior, including wholesale pricing, checkout rules and ERP connections, against the proposed Shopify plan and implementation before quoting the work.
Will customers keep their Magento passwords?+
Existing passwords do not transfer through Shopify customer CSV imports. We agree on the sign-in experience and customer communication. Passwordless Shopify customer accounts use an email verification code; a password-based account setup needs its own activation plan.
Can you migrate subscriptions and saved payment methods?+
This needs a separate gateway and subscription-app review. Payment tokens or card data follow supported migration processes, and subscription contracts need recreation. Unsupported methods may require customer action. We confirm compatibility before including recurring billing continuity in the launch plan.
How do you handle Magento URLs and SEO?+
We map important old URLs to relevant Shopify destinations and test eligible permanent redirects. The review includes metadata, internal links, canonical URLs and sitemap coverage. Magento rewrites and filtered URLs need particular attention. The migration scope can include post-launch crawl checks, but rankings are not guaranteed.
Can Magento stay live during migration, and what is the rollback plan?+
It can normally remain active during the build. The agreed launch window controls the final data sync and checkout switch. Rollback planning retains the source backup and assigns responsibility for reconciling new orders, stock and payments. Reversing the domain change alone does not restore transaction consistency.
How much does a Magento to Shopify migration cost?+
An estimate depends on catalog complexity, data quality, historical records, extensions, integrations and storefront changes. We define deliverables and acceptance tests before agreeing the price. Handover includes the approved data mapping, exception report, storefront, redirects, test record and launch instructions, with a clearly scoped support window.
How are Magento configurable products mapped to Shopify?+
We assess the options, inventory relationships, pricing and product information using representative records. The destination model is chosen around the required buying and fulfillment behavior. Complex source configurations may need restructuring or a supported app, so sample imports are reviewed before the whole catalog moves.
