This release updates how Shopify storefronts declare protocol compatibility. It is relevant to commerce-agent integrations, without creating a new storefront migration task.
Shopify published Shopify storefronts now support UCP 2026-08-25 on 4 September 2026.
A discovery-profile update, with the same capabilities
Shopify’s /.well-known/ucp discovery profiles now advertise compatibility with UCP 2026-08-25. A platform or agent that supports that version can use it when negotiating with a Shopify storefront. The supported capabilities themselves have not changed.
Shopify says existing integrations and storefront configuration require no changes for this announcement. Teams implementing a new UCP client should follow the linked protocol documentation for profile discovery and negotiation.
For a team building a commerce agent
Vivek Codes’ implementation advice:
- Record the protocol versions your client actually understands and exercise negotiation against a saved discovery response. Keep compatibility tests separate from tests of the shopping actions exposed by the store.
- Treat a version match as the start of integration testing. Check the capabilities returned for the intended journey before promising a feature to a merchant or adding it to an agent’s interface.
